Gamepad Tester

Connect a controller and press a button on it.

How to test a controller

  1. Connect the controller by USB or Bluetooth, then press any button on it so the browser notices it.
  2. Press every button and trigger and move both sticks. Buttons light up and triggers show how far they are pressed.
  3. Leave the sticks alone to check for drift: the dots should sit still in the middle.

Frequently asked questions

Nothing happens. Why?

A browser only reveals a gamepad after you press a button on it, for privacy reasons, so press one. If it still does nothing, check that the pad is paired or plugged in and working in another app, and try a different cable or USB port.

How do I check for stick drift?

Let go of the sticks and watch the numbers. A healthy stick reads close to 0.00 on both axes and the dot sits centred. Readings that wander or sit at 0.1 or more mean the stick is worn, which is what causes a character to walk on its own.

What is a deadzone?

A small range around the centre that a game ignores so a slightly drifting stick does not move anything. If your stick rests at 0.15, a game with a 0.1 deadzone will still drift.

Which controllers work?

Anything the browser exposes through the Gamepad API: Xbox, PlayStation, Switch Pro and most USB and Bluetooth pads. The numbering follows the standard mapping when the browser reports one, so button 0 is A or cross.

Is anything sent anywhere?

No. The readings stay in your browser; nothing about your controller is recorded or uploaded.
