How to check your screen for dead pixels

1. Clean the screen first so dust does not look like a bad pixel.
2. Click Start full screen, or a color to start with it. Click, press Space or use the arrow keys to change color, and Esc to finish.
3. Look closely across the whole screen on each color. A dot that stays black is dead, a dot that stays lit is stuck, and a bright dot on black is hot.

What is the difference between dead and stuck pixels?

A dead pixel is always off and shows as a black dot, easiest to spot on white. A stuck pixel is always lit in red, green or blue and shows on the other colors. Stuck pixels sometimes recover on their own; dead pixels usually do not.

What else can I check?

On black, look at the edges for light leaking in, known as backlight bleed. On gray and white, look for patches that are darker or tinted, which show uneven brightness.

Does it work on phones and TVs?

Yes. Open the page in the device's browser and tap to change color. On phones, full screen may leave the status bar visible.
