Rotate Video
How to rotate a video
- Click the box above or drop your video onto it.
- Choose the turn: 90 degrees either way, 180 degrees, or a flip.
- Leave it on Fast unless your player ignores the rotation, then click Rotate.
Frequently asked questions
What is the difference between the two modes?
Fast writes a rotation flag into the file and copies everything else, so it takes a second and loses nothing. Rotating the picture actually turns every frame and re-encodes it, which is slower but works everywhere.
When do I need to rotate the picture?
If a player, an editor or a website shows the video the original way round, it is ignoring the flag. Some older software and some upload forms do. Re-encoding removes all doubt.
Why is the flip option always re-encoded?
A mirror image cannot be described by a rotation flag, so the frames have to be rewritten.
My phone video looks sideways on my computer. Why?
Phones record in one orientation and add a rotation flag; software that reads the flag shows it upright and software that ignores it does not. This tool fixes it either way.
Is my video uploaded?
No. The conversion runs in your browser with FFmpeg compiled to WebAssembly. The first use downloads the converter (about 30 MB); your file never leaves your device.
