Frequently asked questions

How is BMI calculated?

BMI is your weight in kilograms divided by your height in meters squared. For 68 kg and 1.70 m, that is 68 ÷ (1.70 × 1.70) = 23.5.

What are the BMI categories?

For adults, the World Health Organization uses: under 18.5 underweight, 18.5 to 24.9 healthy weight, 25 to 29.9 overweight, and 30 or more obesity.

Is BMI accurate for everyone?

No. It does not tell muscle from fat, so athletes can score as overweight, and it means something different for older adults and some ethnic groups. It is not meant for children or pregnant women. Talk to a doctor about your own health.
