Frequently asked questions
How many rounds can I play?
As many as you like. A new word is drawn every time you click New word, so there is no waiting for tomorrow.
What letters count as yellow?
A letter that is in the word but in a different place. Repeats are counted: if the word has one E and you guess two, only one of yours is coloured.
Where do the words come from?
The hidden word is drawn from a list of everyday five-letter words. Guesses are checked against the full five-letter word list, which is much longer, so unusual words are accepted as guesses even though they are never the answer.
Why was my word rejected?
It is not in the word list. Proper nouns, abbreviations and most British-only spellings are not in it.
What is a good first guess?
A word with common letters and no repeats, such as CRANE, SLATE or AUDIO. The point of the first guess is to rule out as much as possible, not to be lucky.
Are my results saved?
