How to play Sudoku

1. Choose today's puzzle, or an easy, medium or hard one.
2. Select a square and type a number, or tap one of the number buttons. Use ⌫, Backspace or 0 to clear it.
3. Fill the grid so every row, every column and every 3 × 3 box holds the numbers 1 to 9 once each. Numbers that clash turn red.

Frequently asked questions

Does every puzzle have one solution?

Yes. Squares are only emptied while the puzzle still has exactly one solution.

Is today's puzzle the same for everyone?

Yes. It is made from the date, so everyone who opens it on the same day gets the same grid, and a new one starts at midnight.

What makes a puzzle hard?

Fewer starting numbers. Easy puzzles start with about 38, medium with about 30 and hard with 24 to 28, which leaves fewer squares with only one possible number.
