How to play 2048

1. Use the arrow keys or WASD, or swipe on a phone, to slide every tile in one direction.
2. Two tiles with the same number merge into one worth their sum, and a new 2 or 4 appears after each move.
3. Reach the 2048 tile to win, then keep going for a higher score. The game ends when no move is left.

Frequently asked questions

How is the score counted?

Every merge adds the value of the new tile, so merging two 64s adds 128.

Is there a strategy?

Keep your biggest tile in one corner and build a row of large tiles along that edge, avoiding the one direction that would pull it out of the corner.

Where is my best score kept?

In this browser only. Nothing is sent anywhere, and clearing your browsing data resets it.
