How to play Minesweeper

1. Pick a level and click any square. The first click is always safe and usually opens an area.
2. Each number tells you how many mines touch that square, including diagonally. Use the numbers to work out where the mines are.
3. Right-click, long-press or turn on Flag mode to mark a mine. Click a number whose mines are all flagged to open the squares around it.
4. Open every square that is not a mine to win.

Frequently asked questions

How big is each level?

Beginner is 9 × 9 with 10 mines, Intermediate 16 × 16 with 40 mines and Expert 16 × 30 with 99 mines, the same as the classic Windows game.

Do I ever have to guess?

Sometimes. Boards are random, so now and then two squares are equally likely to hide a mine and no number can tell them apart.

Where is my best score kept?

In this browser only. Nothing is sent anywhere, and clearing your browsing data resets it.
