Common limits
- Gmail and Outlook attachments: about 20 to 25 MB.
- Discord: 10 MB without a paid plan.
- WhatsApp: large files can be sent as documents, but videos sent as media are compressed heavily on the way.
A minute of phone video in 4K can be 300 MB or more, so it needs to shrink a lot.
1. Cut what you do not need
Length is the biggest factor. Halving the length halves the size. Use Trim Video to keep only the part that matters.
2. Lower the resolution
A phone screen looks fine at 720p. Going from 4K to 720p cuts the pixels per frame by about nine times.
3. Compress
Compress Video re-encodes the video at a lower bitrate, and can aim for a target size in MB. As a guide, size in MB ≈ bitrate in Mbps × seconds ÷ 8. To fit 10 MB with a 30-second clip, aim for about 2.5 Mbps in total.
4. Drop the sound if it does not matter
Audio is small compared with video, but for screen recordings and silent clips Mute Video saves a little more.
When it still will not fit
Upload the full video to a cloud drive and send a link instead. That keeps the original quality.
