YouTube Thumbnail Downloader

How to download a YouTube thumbnail

  1. Copy the video's link: Share then Copy link in the app, or the address bar in a browser. Links to Shorts, live streams and embeds work too, and so does the 11-character video ID on its own.
  2. Paste it into the box. Every size YouTube keeps for that video appears, largest first.
  3. Press Download under the size you want. Full HD is 1280 × 720; older or smaller videos may only have the smaller sizes.

Frequently asked questions

Why is there no Full HD thumbnail?

YouTube only makes the 1280 × 720 and 640 × 480 versions when the video was uploaded in high enough quality or has a custom thumbnail. The 480 × 360 version exists for every video.

Why do some thumbnails have black bars?

The 640 × 480 and 480 × 360 sizes are 4:3, so a widescreen thumbnail is shown with black bars above and below. Full HD and Medium are 16:9 and have none.

Can I use the thumbnail anywhere?

The thumbnail belongs to whoever made the video. It is fine for personal use, such as a reference or a link preview, but ask the creator before using it in your own videos, designs or anything you sell.
