Tile Calculator
How to calculate how many tiles you need
- Enter the width and height of the area, and the area of anything you are not tiling.
- Enter the tile size, the grout joint and how many tiles are in a box.
- The number of tiles and boxes appears, including the waste you allowed for.
Frequently asked questions
How is it calculated?
The grout joint is added to the tile size, because each tile takes up its own width plus one joint. The area is divided by that, and the waste percentage is added on top.
How much waste should I allow?
About 10% for a simple rectangular room, and 15% or more for diagonal layouts, patterns or rooms with many cuts around pipes and corners.
Should I buy extra?
Buying a spare box from the same batch is worth it: colors differ slightly between batches, and a broken tile later is hard to match.
Are my numbers sent anywhere?
No. Everything is worked out in your browser and nothing is stored or uploaded.
