Create the code
- Open the Wi-Fi QR Code Generator.
- Type the network name and password exactly, including capital letters, and choose the security type. Most home routers use WPA.
- Download the code as PNG, or as SVG for sharp printing at any size.
The password is only stored in the image you download; it is not sent anywhere.
How guests use it
They open the camera on an iPhone (iOS 11 or later) or most Android phones, point it at the code and tap the prompt to join. Older Android phones may need Google Lens.
What the code contains
A Wi-Fi QR code is plain text in a standard format, for example WIFI:T:WPA;S:MyNetwork;P:MyPassword;;. Anyone who scans it can read the password, so treat a printed code like the password itself.
Tips
- Print it at least 3 cm (about 1.2 in) wide, dark on light, with the white border kept.
- For visitors, share a guest network rather than your main one.
- After changing the password, make and print a new code.
Built into your phone
Android 10 and later can show a QR code for the network you are connected to: in Wi-Fi settings, tap the network (or its gear icon), then Share. The exact menu names vary by phone maker. On iPhone with iOS 18 or later, the Passwords app shows one: Wi-Fi, choose the network, then Show Network QR Code.
