Frequently asked questions
How is Morse code written?
A dot and a dash make up each letter. A single space separates letters, and a slash or a wide gap separates words, so "SOS" is ... --- ... and "HI THERE" is .... .. / - .... . .-. .
What does words per minute mean?
It is set by the word PARIS, which is 50 dot lengths long. At 15 words per minute a dot lasts 80 milliseconds, a dash three dots, the gap between letters three dots and the gap between words seven.
What about accents and other alphabets?
Morse covers A to Z, the digits and common punctuation. Accents are reduced to the plain letter, and characters with no code are skipped.
Is my text sent anywhere?
No. The text is processed inside your browser and is never sent anywhere.
