How to test Hardy-Weinberg equilibrium

  1. Type the observed numbers of AA, Aa and aa individuals.
  2. The allele frequencies p and q appear, with the expected counts for each genotype.
  3. The chi-square test shows whether the population departs from equilibrium.

Frequently asked questions

How do I read the result?

A P value of 0.05 or more means the counts fit Hardy-Weinberg equilibrium. Below 0.05 the difference is significant.

Why one degree of freedom?

There are three genotype classes, minus one for the total and one for the allele frequency estimated from the data.
