Group Sequence

How to format a sequence in numbered groups

  1. Choose DNA or protein under Sequence type, then paste the sequence, as plain text or FASTA.
  2. Set the group size and the number of groups per line, and where the position numbers go.
  3. Copy the result into a report or lab notebook.

Frequently asked questions

What do the numbers mean?

On the left, each number is the position of the first base on that line. On the right, it is the position of the last base.

Why split a sequence into groups?

Blocks of ten make positions easy to count by eye and a sequence easy to check against a printout. GenBank and UniProt print sequences this way.

Is my sequence uploaded?

No. Everything runs in your browser, so your sequences never leave your device.
