How to split shared expenses
- Type the names of the people sharing costs. Add a person for each extra one, up to 20.
- For each expense, enter what it was for, the amount and who paid, and untick anyone who did not share it, such as someone who skipped a dinner.
- The table shows what each person paid, their share and their balance: plus means they are owed, minus means they owe. Under it are the payments that settle everyone up.
Frequently asked questions
How are uneven cents handled?
An amount that does not divide evenly is split to the cent, with the leftover cents going one each to the first people in the list, so the shares always add up to the total.
Why so few payments?
Instead of everyone paying everyone back, the person who owes the most pays the person owed the most, again and again until all balances are zero. For a group of n people that takes at most n − 1 payments.
Is my list saved?
Yes, in this browser only, so you can close the page and add expenses later. Nothing is sent anywhere. Start over clears it.
