Reverse Complement
How to get the reverse complement of DNA
- Paste one or more DNA or RNA sequences, as plain text or FASTA.
- Choose reverse complement, reverse or complement. The output updates as you type.
- Copy output or Download saves the result.
Frequently asked questions
What happens to ambiguity codes?
IUPAC codes are complemented too: R becomes Y, K becomes M, B becomes V, and N, S and W stay the same. Lowercase letters stay lowercase.
What is the difference between reverse, complement and reverse complement?
Reverse writes the sequence backwards. Complement swaps each base for its partner (A with T, C with G). Reverse complement does both, which gives the other strand read 5' to 3'.
Is my sequence uploaded?
No. Everything runs in your browser, so your sequences never leave your device.
