Random Regions
How to randomize regions of a sequence
- Choose DNA or protein under Sequence type, then paste the sequence, as plain text or FASTA.
- Type the ranges to randomize, such as 10..20, 50..60.
- Click Randomize. Letters inside the ranges are replaced with random ones and the rest stays the same.
Frequently asked questions
Are both ends of a range randomized?
Yes. 10..20 replaces all 11 bases from position 10 to 20. A base can come out the same as before by chance.
What is it useful for?
Making controls: scrambling a binding site or motif while keeping the sequence around it shows whether that region matters.
Is my sequence uploaded?
No. Everything runs in your browser, so your sequences never leave your device.
