How to generate a hash

1. Type or paste text, or choose a file. MD5, SHA-1, SHA-256, SHA-384 and SHA-512 are calculated at once.
2. Paste a published checksum into "Compare with" to check a download: a match means the file is identical.
3. Copy any hash with its Copy button.

Which hash should I use?

SHA-256 for anything security-related. MD5 and SHA-1 are broken for security but still used as quick checksums.

Can a hash be reversed?

No. A hash is one-way, although short or common inputs can be guessed by trying candidates, which is why passwords need slow, salted hashing instead.

Is my text or file uploaded?

No. Hashes are calculated in your browser and nothing is sent anywhere.
